Interview

Storyline: Jack has an interview next day. Here is a piece of conversation between him and his friend Stella who is giving him some advice.

Stella: So, you’ve an interview tomorrow. Are you well-prepared?

Jack: I don’t know. I’m so nervous. I need this job desperately.

Stella: Don’t worry. You’ll do fine. You’ve got the necessary qualifications.

Jack: I hope so.

Stella: Remember, you’ve to keep your calm throughout the interview.

Jack: I don’t know what to do if they ask me questions that I can’t answer.

Stella: If you don’t know the answer, be honest and say that you can’t answer that question.

Jack: Don’t you think it will spoil my chances?

Stella: I don’t think so. I think they’ll appreciate your honesty. See, they’re not testing your general knowledge; they’re trying to assess your personality. So you just need to show them that you’ve got the right personality traits. That’s all.

Jack: Thanks. I’ll keep that in mind.

Conversation 2

Changing jobs

Storyline: Sam is thinking of changing jobs because he hasn’t got a raise in three years. Here is a piece of conversation between him and his friend Kate.

Kate: Do you think you will get a raise this year?

Sam: Chances are slim!

Kate: But you haven’t got one in so many years.

Sam: Yes, it’s been three long years. The company has been incurring huge losses year after year so they can’t quite afford to give anyone a raise.

Kate: Don’t you think it’s time to change jobs? What’s the point in sticking with a company that keeps losing money?

Sam: I’ve been thinking the same. I’ve already applied for a few positions. Actually, I’ve got an interview next week.

Kate: Really? Good luck!
